Here is the review
of the latest book from Blogadda, a cool, dark thriller with a twister of an
ending.
Title: The Devotion of Suspect X
Author: Keigo Higashino
Plot: Yasuko Hanaoka, a pretty, single mother, works at a lunch box shop
and lives a quiet, peaceful life with her teenage daughter. That is till her abusive,
extorting ex-husband shows up outside her door. What happens then shatters the harmony
of her life and her daughter’s. The events that follow are surprising and
scary, to say the least and it all ends in a way she couldn’t have ever
imagined. Why is Ishigami, the introverted, genius mathematician next door,
doing what he is?? What exactly does Yukawa, the brilliant physicist, know
about what happened? Will Detective Kusanagi be able to unravel all the threads
of this tightly bound knot? How can a quiet and seemingly boring person have so
much passion inside?
Review: The story is set in modern day Japan , and the writer gives a wonderful
feel of the place with his writing. You can almost see the route Ishigami takes
to work, and feel the cold as he walks near the bridge. You can feel the warmth
and sounds of Yasuko’s workplace and can imagine how she would look like. The
old university halls and dirty labs are most likely familiar with a lot of the
readers.
All the characters
in the novel are believable and may very well be people we see around in our
daily lives. But that is exactly what makes the story so intriguing – we can
hardly imagine an ordinary person with an ordinary job having the kind of
passion and love described in the story. The characters here are all well
fleshed out, with little details given that make them very real.
Though a mystery
novel, this is not your regular whodunit. It is kind of a reverse engineering
process. The underlying question throughout the story would be the one asked by
Yukawa, “Which is harder: devising an unsolvable problem, or solving that
problem?” If this sounds like going round in circles, then I suggest you read
the book to understand it!!
The ending of the
book is superb; the reader walks straight into the writer’s little trap and you
get an ending you wouldn’t have seen coming from miles away. It took me a few
minutes to actually sink in!!
The translation of
the novel has been done very well, and there are hardly any hiccups in the
narrative. It is a smooth read, though you’ll probably get goosebumps at the
end, especially if you’ve been reading the entire novel at a stretch – and that
is quite possible, considering how unpredictable the story is.
Happy Mother’s Day
to all mothers out there!!! I think we’ll all agree that it’s the most
important job we’ll ever have :-). Cheers to us and to our lovely Moms who are
such great examples for us!!!
It rained this
morning and was quite pleasant after that. I had a nice day shopping at the
mall with Mr. Tiger and the Cub. Not a bad way to spend such a special day!! Oh,
did I mention my spending freeze is over now that it’s my birthday month??
1. Controlled
portions most of the time, especially at dinner.
2. Weighed myself
every day except one.
3. Had sufficient
servings of fruit.
4. Kept downing
lots n lots of water.
5. Read a book – “The
Devotion of Suspect X” by Keigo Higashino
6. Was good and
regular with my prayers.
7. Made a craft
with Cub – a two level car garage with ramp:
The top level, complete with city backdrop:
And the bottom
level:
I got the idea for
this craft from here. It’s really easy – just need an empty cereal box and some
toilet paper rolls.
1. Worked out only
3 days this past week.
2. Was a bit of a
nag this week, with the Mister being the main victim :-(
3. Not very up to
date with the news.
4. Didn’t read to
Cub at all.
5. Been a very
irregular blogger
Not a bad week,
eh?? This month is very special to me; my blog completed a 100 posts, my Facebook
page crossed 100 fans, my anniversary, Mother’s day, my cousin’s wedding coming
up and of course my birthday!! Whew!! Tell me, do you guys have anything
special planned this month?

A new month!! Last
week saw my 100th blog post and my 9th wedding anniversary.
It was also a good week with regards to my goals. Lets see how I did :-).
1. Woke up at 5:30
on 4 days and before 6:30 on others.
2. Worked out for
30 minutes on 4 days and 45 minutes on the fifth.
3. Controlled my
diet most of the time, especially when I was at the in-laws, which is not an
easy task :-)
4. Started reading
a book – ‘The Mummy Coach’ by Lorraine
Thomas.
5. Made a craft
with Cub – a little train made with little cardboard boxes.
A close up of its
tiny passengers:
1. Dinner was late
about half the week.
2. Fruit intake was
a little low
3. Prayers were
better, but still not completely regular
Gotta prepone my
dinner and include more fruits. Hope this week has started off great for
everyone!!
I’ve done it! Shocks and Shoes has reached the 100 post milestone!!! Yayyyyy!!!!!

Of course, this
milestone would have come miles earlier had I been more regular at blogging,
but whatever, here I am!!!
Oh boy, after
typing out the first few posts, I felt like I had hit a wall and was wondering
if it was a mistake to start the blog. My main reasons for starting it were a)
Lack of any girlfriends in the near vicinity and b) An outlet for my
creativity, etc..
Well, I somehow
found a 100 topics to post about, and it seems kind of incredible now!!

Over the past 100
posts, I've blogged a little about my interests - fashion, food, fitness, kids,
general issues. My blog has also become a way to track my goals and share ideas
with fellow bloggers. In the future, I'd like to focus a little more on general
issues and fitness as well as healthier recipes. That is a challenge since I
love baking, and baked stuff are not exactly health food :-).
I’ve had the
inspiration to reach this milestone mainly due to my readers. I won't lie, messages
in my inbox light up my heart, some comments really make my day and followers
and fans are a joy!! I’m certainly in no rat-race to get the most number of
followers, but seeing their number increase steadily does make Fab a happy
girl!! Thank you so much guys!!!
As much as writing
my own posts, reading other blogs is something I love. My day starts with a cup
of tea in front of the computer, checking out what the others have been up to :-). I
now feel a sense of connection with my regular readers and the blogs I follow.
There really is
nothing more to say, except that blogging is super cool and I am so happy to have
discovered it!! And of course, this milestone is dedicated to all my readers,
Thank You!!

This week just flew
by!!! Honestly, does anyone else feel like this year is moving along too fast??
Well, just shows that you got to really enjoy every moment of every day!!
1. Worked out 30
minutes on 4 days, upped the intensity this week.
2. Practised pretty
good portion control throughout the week.
3. Maintained my
fruit and veggie intake
4. Maintained my
house cleaning schedule even though the maid is MIA
5. Read the paper
almost everyday
1. Nagged the hubs
quite a lot and yelled at Cub once.
2. Didn’t spend
much one on one time with Cub
3. Blog schedule is
haywire.
4. Prayers are
still not on track.
Monthly Review –
April
April has been a
month of recovery for my knees, with some low impact exercising. I am really
proud that I have finally learnt to
control my portions. My weight loss goal at the beginning of the year was 5 kg,
of which I have lost 2 kg to date. I know, slow progress but steady progress
nevertheless. What I’ve learnt is that portion control is really, really important
for me to lose weight, and exercising keeps that weight off. Also, I’ve started
weighing myself everyday, and I feel a real sense of control now.
Prayers and regular
blogging are my major areas of improvement for next month. Also more time and
activities with Cub, I read very little to him last month and I feel really bad
about it.
I’m so excited
about May – it’s my birthday and anniversary month!!! Well, catch you guys later, hope you're having a nice summer!!

We had a few light showers which made it a little cooler here. It is actually quite cloudy as I’m typing this :-). Anyways, I used the cool(er) weather as an excuse to slip on my relaxed fit jeans, which were otherwise ignored during summer :-). I wore this outfit when I went shopping with my sister.
I teamed the jeans with a white comfy top and a floral stole to add some color.
Carried on the floral theme with a silver flower pendant
More flowers on my bangles:
My bright-as-bright-can-be red bag:
And some non-floral accessories:
I wore these super comfy Catwalk flats for the second time. They are a dream to walk about in :-).
Top: AND
Jeans: Westside
Stole: Pantaloons
Bag: Gift
Pendant: A store in Saudi Arabia
Earrings: I think it was Reliance TimeOut
Watch: Titan Raga
Bangles: Streets of Hyderabad
Sandals: Catwalk
This post is a participant in the event INFB Remix: Florals. You can check out the details here.
Is it raining in your part of the world? Those in India , have you banished your jeans for now??
